I found this story on the couponmom.com forums and it is just such a touching story I had to share.
"Long story but….
I’m new to CMom, but I’ve always been a coupon clipper. About seven months ago I was at one of our Kroger stores, standing behind a couple with two small boys. The dad was obviously in the military, he was dressed in fatigues. When the cashier totaled their bill, I seen the women look at her husband and he asked the cashier if she could take off a few items. They started pulling personal hygiene and household things. Looked like they were trying to keep the food stuff. Well, I’m a very strong supporter of our military and wanted to help. I didn’t want to butt into their business so to speak, but when I seen that they were going to have to put back a bag of cookies the littlest boy was holding, I almost lost it and started crying. Well, I said a brief prayer and asked the women if they could use a few coupons because I had lots to spare. I showed her my binder. Before anyone of them could really say no, I started pulling Q’s for items they had and handed them to the cashier. After I scanned my shopper’s card and Q’s, their total went from about $170 to $85. Most of the stuff was already on sale. I had to laugh because the guy said, “Ma’am, how did you do that”. So, I stepped out of line, explained the basics and we exchanged emails/phone #. I still talk often to the women, Beth. Also, her husband in currently serving in Iraq and I told her about Anysoldier.com program. Along with Beth, I send care packages to her husband and his squad.
Plus, while I was checking out, the cashier told me it was nice to see someone helping out others. Come to find out, the cashiers’ husband had served in the military for over 20 years before retiring and her own son was in the Marines. A week later I was back shopping and I was approached by the store manager. He asked if I was the lady that helped out the family a week ago. He said he was recently retired from the military and interested in the anysoldier program I told to the cashier. Well, I now get a discount on bottled water, protein bars and a few select hygiene items I send to my soldiers.
I just think it’s kinda neat the way things work out and the people you meet because of coupons. LOL."
